Moody Wright Waterfield and Addie Butts Whitehurst Waterfield
From Jane Brumley
They had 5 daughters all deceased:
Agnes Waterfield married Luther Murden and lived in Norfolk, Va-
no children. She related may times of taking "collard sandwitches"
to school for lunch.
Gladys Waterfield married William "Bill" Stevens- no
children. Drove the school bus for many years.
Mary Waterfield married Albert Dixon - 3 children: Stanley,
Michael and Glen.
Ruth Elizabeth Waterfield married James Nonie Miller - 2 children:
Jane Miller Brumley & Allan Ray Miller (deceased).
Ina Jean Waterfield married James Ballew - 1 child Jimmy Ballew
(deceased).
My grandmother Addie Butts Whitehurst (Waterfield) was named for "Preacher Butts". A well known Methodist Minister who wrote a book on his time as minister in this area.
There is kind of a funny story about the marriage of Moody & Addie. Grandmother's father was James Whitehurst and was known for his long prayers at the KI Methodist Church. One Sunday AM while he was praying, Moody & Addie ran away & got married. Later he said " while I was praying to the Lord, the devil stole my daughter." Grandfather Moody later worked for the Knapps on Mackay Island and I spent many days playing there on the grounds and in the "big house". The caretakers/managers of the house and grounds were Arthur & Mamie Waterman, also good friends of my parents James Nonie Miller & Ruth Waterfield.
