PRINCESS ANNE HIGH SCHOOL

Question asked by Don Austin. Someone should have some information on the K.I. kids attending Princess Anne High School the 1954-55 school year. I know and remember it because I was there that year also. They got to load their bus first and always (quite frequently) arrived late.

Melinda Lukei: I have a copy of both 1955 and 1956 annuals. Were there only two years that the kids went to Princess Anne High School? In 1955 there were 3 Austins - Martha, Mary and Robert, don't know if they were from Knotts Island, Erma Lou Jones (but I believe she had already moved to Creeds, d/o Ira Jones, Jeanette Spain (one of Miss Add White's girls) were in that class. In 1956 Romona Ellis, Joyce Gallup (Miss Add White's girls), Betty Sue Jones d/o Herman Guy and Virginia White, There was an Allen White and a Vincent White that I don't know if they were Knotts Island kids or not. I know Romona and Betty Sue were from Knotts Island.

Jane Brumley: I attended PA High School those 2 years. Otto Halstead (now deceased) was a Korean War Vet and was in military before he graduated from HS. He went back to high school on the GI Bill to finish. Other students were: Al Bonney (deceased), Bonney Strawhand, George Cason (now lives at Creeds), Burley Wade, Vincent White, Erlean Munden (Keel), Carolyn Beasley (Meiggs), Jane Miller (Brumley) and I will come up with others as I think of them. Moyock High School Class of 1957.

Lynne Jennings: Vincent White was the youngest son of Sidney and Lelia White

Brenda McLaughlin: Vincent White is also deceased. He was my youngest uncle.

Melinda Lukei: Vincent Lee White was the youngest child of Sidney and Lelia Waterfield White. He was born 21 June 1940 and married Carolyn Pittman.

May 19, 2013. Actually from my inbox of June 2, 2011. Comment - Raymond Edmond Twomey. I was reading about the few KI kids who went to Princess Ann high and remembered that my mom Joyce Ann Cartwright Twomey daughter of Elsie Mae Waterfield Cartwright went to Princess Ann High. I think she was still living on the island at the time. I was lucky enough to live on KI too as a young boy and attend the school. Marie Jones was my principal. PS. My middle name comes from Edmond L. White my great uncle who taught me so much about life as a waterman on Knotts Island and building houses.
