THE DAILY ADVANCE March 16, 1962. Knotts Island Ferry Given
Approval By Highway Board.
Ferry service between Knotts Island and the
Currituck County Courthouse area is about to become a reality.
Not much longer will the residents of the small
peninsular in Northeastern North Carolina’s most extreme portion
have to travel into neighboring Virginia to get to and from points
in their own state.
The State Highway Commission meeting in Raleigh
approved an allocation of $85,000 to buy a ferry which will run
from, the southwest tip of Knotts Island to Currituck village.
Benefiting the most from this action will be
the area's school children, since they are required to travel
about 100 miles a day between their homes and school.
