May 1, 2010. Comment - Carolyn Rowell: This is a picture of the "Cannon Ball" bus from Knotts Island to Creeds school. One of the girls is my Aunt Janie and another is Francis Mae Williams Etheridge (Johnnie's sister), 6th girl from the right, front row. Janie Williams Blair) is (I beleive) in the back row, right behind Francis Mae.
May 1, 2010. Comment - Jane Brumley: My husband rode the Cannonball to Creeds too. But he rode earlier than Frances Mae Williams Etheridge. Note that it was after they ran the electric line as a transformer is in the picture. There were 2 cannonball buses for transporting children to school. They were purchased by Corey, the northern sportsman that had the hunting club on the causeway. Now the location of wildlife lookout.
May 1, 2010. Comment - Keri Beasley Jones: My grandaddy B. (Emory Beasley) drove the bus to creeds before my dad, Dale, was old enough to go to school there.
May 2, 2010. Comment - Melinda Lukei: Many of the students of Knotts Island went to high school in Virginia Schools, Creeds and Princess Anne High School. I don't know what year is was that they started going to Currituck Schools. My father and mother went to Creeds and my cousins graduated with me in 1956 at Princess Anne High School on Virginia Beach Blvd. Dad graduated in 1932. I have his class ring from Creeds.
