Paddle yourself around Knotts Island

Here are some excursions that anyone with boats and gear can try out. Just click on any title and you will be given a description and good advice on how to complete your outing.

If you have an excursion to share, e-mail us. We'll be happy to add your adventure.

These trips are right around the island.

Carova Beach on the Atlantic Ocean

This is a "must do" trip. Paddle from the island to the ocean. View wild horses living in a community of folks who have no roads leading to their town. Boat or four wheel drive is how you approach this hideaway. This round trip is 5.5 miles across open water.

Mackay Island Refuge

We call this one the "big loop". It's a couple of miles of paddling through the canals at the wildlife refuge.

These trips are not on the islandbut are favorites of ours.

Blackwater Creek in Virginia Beach

The starting point for this easy paddle is located across the Intracoastal Waterway from Rt. 615 on your way to Knotts Island. It's only an 11 mile drive from the island so we call it one of our own.

The Barge Graveyard on the ICW

This is a interesting little paddle into the marsh that runs along the Intracoastal Waterway.  It take you to a site where old wooden barges have been left to spend the rest of time settled in the mud.
